Ah. So a bit like hatchery/mixed breed chickens versus ones from a breeder who’s been working with a specific line for years.
Yep, exactly! Like how you're not going to buy a leghorn if you want a snuggly lap chicken, you'll get a cochin or silkie, but if you get a mix, you don't know how friendly it'll generally be.

Isn’t true of puppies from shelters, too? Aside from genetics? I don’t know too much about breeding purebred dogs, only chickens.
My SIL’s parents got a rescue dog that they thought was gonna be pretty small, he looked small in the pics, and he ended up being huge 😂🤣😬 they love him and would never give him up but just not what they were expecting or hoping for! I’ve seen the opposite too where someone thinks a dog is gonna be big, or even wants that, and the dog ends up small or at least like average size.

Same. My grandma got one that she didn't think would get much larger than her current Aussie at the time and now he's like 130 pounds

I see. Though if you get a d’uccle mix you can generally expect the same friendly temperament as a d’uccle. And sometimes a bird from a breeder will be completely different from what you expected, like the aggressive bielefelder rooster I had (bielefelders are known as docile chickens). If I wanted a friendly rooster now I would look on Craigslist for one listed as tame, despite breed. Oh, and all my cochins have been uninterested in people. Yeah, I’m definitely using too many chicken comparisons.

No I always use chicken comparisons
When talking about non standardized colors: "LiKe HoW yOu CaN'T sHoW sPLaSh BiRdS?'

Yeah, I've looked at dogs on the shelter's website and most of them have specific requirements.
Like no children, or no other pets, or doesn't do well around people or other dogs.
Yep, this was our problem. We tried every shelter, pound and rescue within a 100 mile radius. Either they didn't adopt to families with children or they required a fully fenced in yard. We literally could not adopt. And I am still racked with guilt over it because I WANTED to.

Which is why it's general! My leghorn is extremely curious but will not let you touch her if she can help it, and my friends' standard cochins are content to sit on your lap and cuddle.
Yeah I was super nervous getting mine cause I thought she’d be flighty and she’s so friendly and curious lol she doesn’t like to sit still or be caught either though 😂🤣 but will let me lol but she’s got things to do and places to be lol my Cochins I think would be friendly but I haven’t really spend much time with them

Oh wow!!! yeah, I don’t think theirs is that big but he’s definitely fairly huge!! Probably over 100. Meanwhile my brother’s middle dog they thought was gonna be huge like our Lab/Pyr mix we had and he ended up being Aussie sized 😂🤣 their other male is pretty small too lol but he’s built like a tank 😂 their female ended up being the biggest at like 80 pounds lol
