Ignorant Yankee / country music (update Page 13)

I read once that Abba was actually really into the technology of making music. One of the men was influential in developing a style of recording that revolutionized the industry and was the key to their distinct sound. They were the first to layer multiple tracks on top of each other. They were apparently musical technology geniuses.

"Dancin' queeeennn, young and sweet, only seventeen..."

What a coincidence. We watched the "Mamma Mia" movie last night (muscial with Meryl Streep, Christine Beranski, etc.).

Pretty good movie overall. But Pierce Brosnan can not sing.

I was surprised how many ABBA songs I recognized.

This coming from a guy who used to have a "Death Before Disco" lighter back in the 70's...

We moved to KY from CA when I was 14 and couldn't figure out what you'ns was...Neighbors(ended up BFFs) grandma used to call us you'ns, like "You'ns girls better get a sweater on." Course now many years later I have also added yonder, warsh(only use this to tease a friend), a piece(like "up the road a piece") and actually asked hubby how far a piece was, and as for food...chocolate gravy n buiscits, grits, biscuit bread.

Anyway back to topic... I have 2 stepped before but it's been a long time since I've done it. I never was much of a dancer anyway.

"a piece". LOL. Hadn't heard that one for years. It's a very general description, meaning "a ways". But you probably guessed that.

The one that always got me was when Grandma said "There's a 'doings' in town tonight".

"Doings". Meaning a dance, a party, a get-together, etc.
Too funny.

Cindy - You'll have to try two-stepping again sometime. It's really fun.

Cindy, don't listen to him! I was first led to believe it's a wholesome, good old fun time, but since then, thanks to this thread, I've learned that wet tee-shirts are mandatory (but not for the men), and lewd and lascivious behavior abounds. That two-step stuff, stay away if you want your mama to be proud of you!

[Cindy, in case you don't know me, I'm just kidding!]

Oh crikey don't start me off singing Abba songs again.....those where the days!

I used to run away screaming when I heard an ABBA song. Now I find my self humming along and tapping my toes.

There. I admitted it.

That's the first step, right?
