illinois towns that allow backyard chickens

Hey!
Sorry about the lack of follow up. Yes we did lose, but from the beginning it was 4 trustees against the cause, and 2 for. Mayor was in favor, but he can't vote :/
He can only break a tie so I was really hoping for a 3-3 tie.

I've made a Facebook group for us, and if any of you are in Mundelein or around, I encourage you rio join.

I am hoping this way all the supporters can stay in touch
For the day it arises again in the future.

We we re "tabled until further research can be done", but luckily we are not yet a "no".

Trustees who voted yes: meijer, Sullivan
Trustees who voted no: nutschnig, Semple, lentz,Voss

Trustee Sullivan is a retired veterinarian, and he stood up for us with facts and science, but seriously the opposers of backyard chickens are always running on boogeymen fears and emotions.

I really like your pov re your fb page, that is. Do you think urban homesteading has a better shot at being accepted vs just attempting to have certain animals accepted? Just curious what your thoughts are on the matter.

y'know... I'm not sure...

I do know we were the only town where a trustee who was against hens also lumped it with Bees, so anyone who is against bees would shock-fear to join in against this cause. However, I did take the bees and run with it, because there were no apiary advocates, and truth be told we do need the bees.

I myself am part of the urban homesteading movement, and opening it up to anyone interested in "veggie gardening, home brewing, self sufficiency, sewing, home improvement tips, canning/pickling, etc" can all join in on our cause. Opens it up to more people, I guess :)
As a marketing campaign, I've always been trying to show the village that the chickens were one piece of the puzzle in the big picture of sustainability as a practice that will build a community and future with conservation vs. I want pet chickens, why wont you let me have them.

My town voted to table it, but honestly... the fears are built on preconceived notions. Some (not only trustees, but people in general) will always find comfort in their own opinions that are based on how they grew up, and it's hard to accept change from what you've been taught. You know what.. that gives me a good idea.

We should all make sure to ask whomever is running for village trustee/mayor "Are you in favor of environmentally sustainable practices such as backyard hens? yes? Then you will certainly get my vote!" and it can be marketed as "_________ is for environmentally sustainable practices to benefit the future of our village!" or "___________ encourages Self-sufficiency!" "____________ for environmental sustainability!"

without saying exactly the BYC specifically.

or hey - all of us can run for offices ourselves, and be the change that we want to see in this world <3

Alright, I'm gearing up to gather my research for Wauconda.
Anyone else here in Wauconda? I'm hoping to put together a little gathering to get us started.
(posting in where are you as well)

Anyone in Fox Lake IL?? We have an audience with the village on October 3rd at 6pm! There has been a sub-commitee that did some fact finding research and stated that they had no opposition. We need some pro-chicken folks to show their support! The address is 66 Thillen Dr. in Fox Lake. There are already FAQ flyers prepared to answer to concerns and a press release about a local boy scout who got the ball rolling. Please come if you can!

That's about 15 minutes from me. I am so there! Looking forward to it.
