I have quite a few eggs right now, mostly from the Marans hens. Trouble is the daddy is an Araucana which if you look this up online, is said to carry a "death gene". If I understand this correctly, it means high mortality for the eggs and/or chicks. I had a friend incubate my eggs about a couple years ago. (Different hens then) If I remember correctly she had 5 good eggs out of 12 with only one hatchling. That chick died very quickly after birth.
My second rooster is a gorgeous Silver Splash Marans but right now he is "in jail" due to behavior problems. Once it warms up here I'd like to switch around my housing arrangement to see if I can deal with his aggression. If all works I suspect his will be the dominant rooster and, hence, fertilizing the eggs. Right now it's all I can do to keep them warm and with fresh water. It must be the same for you up there!
If you want to try and meet, that's fine. Actually I have plans to drive up to Mt. Horeb tomorrow unless the weather changes our minds. Giving me back some chicks would be just fine. I just wanted to help out and get a real kick out of seeing the eggs hatch. Silly, I know! I just wanted to be honest about the genetics. Not sure I'm right, but those are my suspicions anyways.
