Illinois...

Dog Woke me up yesterday around 2am wanting out. Didn't leave any turds until the afternoon and hasn't eaten. Walking short distances and has to rest yesterday.
Last night he woke me up trying to get up on the hardwood floor. Got him up and to his bed, he is still breathing this morning. Seems to be sleeping comfortably, time will tell.
He had a similar spell last week where he didn't eat and walking slow, but not as bad.
St Bernard mix about 12 yrs old. Don't think I can get him in the car without hurting him and the vets aren't open anyway. Not sure I can get him out the door to shoot him either. Not that I want to shoot him :hit :barnie
I may have to find a mobile vet.

This weather... :barnie
I still have cracked corn in the feed. I'm sure the birds are appreciating the extra carbs today. I'm a bit worried though that they may be about to molt given the slow down in egg production the last few days. If they start molting now while it's wet and cold, that would not be ideal.

So sorry. It's rough when those end days come. Cherish him while you can.

Many vets are open limited hours. It's more of a drop off situation. They'll take dogs inside with appointment but won't allow the owners inside. Not a good way to say good bye. Although there never is a 'good' way, perhaps you can have a family member help - or neighbor. I'm not sure if a vet would go inside the house.

Neighbors and cousin (only family in state) are afraid of him. One friend who is not afraid, is too old to wrestle him, and with the virus....
I will figure something out, maybe he will die in his sleep.

I certainly did NOT like waking up to snow again. It doesn't feel like spring. Crystal (laced orp) thinks it's a good time to go broody. UGH!

My poor seramas are cold. The extension cord or the patio outlet went out. They no longer have a heater and are quite vocal about being cold. At night they're all inside the coop so I'm sure it's above freezing in there. There are some decent-sized orp chicks in there so perhaps the giant 'babies' can keep their little mamas warm.

when he woke up I got him to Walk though the house, got him outside and called the vet. Wrestled him into the car.
At the vets, Vet tech used a towel as a sling on the back end and I used his harness on the front. ...And the deed is done.
Was hard but not as hard as the last one. This one I got when he was 3yrs so I didn't bond as much. The one before I had from a puppy....it was 10 yrs before I got this one. Still feel like I lost my Best friend :hit because I did
RIP Max

😥You did lose a best friend. Our animals always hold a special place in our hearts. He was a gorgeous boy. I'm sorry you had to go through it during this already difficult time. Take time to mourn. Hugs!:hugs
