Illinois...

Hello Fellow Illinois Chicken Lovers! I'm Marsha from Bloomington,IL. Just so happy to see fellow illini here! Learning much and lurking more. 😁
We just got permission for chickens last fall. I finally took the plunge. It's expensive tho. $300 for the permit, $125 filing fee and $25 for something else, I can't remember. So being on a budget is quite a challenge to afford this. But I'm loving my chicks and anxious to see them grow.

But WOW! That's expensive! I hope it's a lifetime permit & no further annual fees.

Welcome and congratulations!
After ++++++++ years with chickens I'm still learning too.
Too bad about all the fees, but if they made me do it here I'd pay. It's worth it!

We got out today and did dine moe maintenance work on the pond and then got it refilled, moved all the chicks outside, and finished the wood part of the fence we added across the garden and pond. I need to put the wire up across the fence soon. I also need to decide if I'm cooking turkey wings or sending then to freezer camp early. I doubt they'll grow much more, but not sure how I will pack two turkeys to freeze safely until the holidays. I have some side work tomorrow and then to finish planting the garden.

Here's some pics from today.

Traditionally, turkeys were harvested at 18 months. The boys do get bigger, I haven't harvested any girls.... hence a million broodies lol

Welcome to the thread.
Will county stopped their permit requirement. They wanted $600 a year for backyard chickens. Only 2 people applied for it. It cost more to construct the system than they got.
