Another baby is laying!!!! Could be the CCL or the Ameraucana but my money is on the CCL. She laid it in the run too, little brat!

@WhyDoILikeChickens that folded up shell thing is wild. I've had a soft shelled egg and an egg with just the membrane and no shell. I've never seen the shell so oddly deformed. It's impressive that it stayed attached to the membrane.

I added boiling water to calcium pills to mush-ify, then stirred in oatmeal. The hens loved it. I hope it helps the eggshell quality. My hens just don't touch oyster shell.

Today I think I lost 3 eggs..... Eaten by the chickens! Four hens & a rooster had wet sticky beaks and I found 3 areas where the shavings were egg-y. I only got 1 orp egg (which was still warm in the nest) and 2 tiny bantam eggs. Part of it could be my busy schedule. I clean & feed before 8am and then haven't been able to go back out until 3pm.

The bantams don't seem to have the issue in their coop. We have a couple broody hens. They steal all the eggs and sit on them. They won't let any other hens near those eggs.

Do you have any ceramic eggs in the nest boxes? I think very important to have if you want to train them not to be egg eaters. They'll peck the ceramic eggs and no longer get satisfaction of a meal. I'll put one or two in each box.

My girls became hens today!! And Wanda Beth still won't lay even though 2 of the babies are already laying. Because I am a nerd, I made them collages like I do for my kids and dogs on their birthdays.

Well since the rain has finally stopped I'm hoping to get some decent progress on my coop today. I stained a bunch of wood yesterday. This is pretty much where I'm at now.

My middle son is super into JRRT now and I love it because I was a superfan for YEARS back in my reading days so it's nice that one of them has picked it up. He was really pushing for Eowyn and Arwen for the 2 new puppies but got vetod. LOL!!

Your coop looks great!!! Excellent progress!!!!

Horrific day yesterday. In addition to some very scary & stressful family health issues, my day started out with wind & rain. So windy that I saw a roof panel blow off the main run right in front of me. It was only 7:00am, my chickens were getting wet, & any predator could just climb in through the 3x6 foot hole in the top. My mind was racing. How could I keep them safe at night when we have several racoons living near us?

What wonderful friends & neighbors we have! Through the hardships, their generosity was so appreciated. I called a neighbor (fellow suburban chicken owner) to nail the panel back in place. He was able to stop by in the evening on his way home from work. Another neighbor took my son for the afternoon, so I could be free to go to the hospital.

I didn't get back to pick up DS until 9pm. They handed me some dinner. They even went to our house with DS to put the chickens to bed before dark.
