Illinois...

Horrific day yesterday. In addition to some very scary & stressful family health issues, my day started out with wind & rain. So windy that I saw a roof panel blow off the main run right in front of me. It was only 7:00am, my chickens were getting wet, & any predator could just climb in through the 3x6 foot hole in the top. My mind was racing. How could I keep them safe at night when we have several racoons living near us?

What wonderful friends & neighbors we have! Through the hardships, their generosity was so appreciated. I called a neighbor (fellow suburban chicken owner) to nail the panel back in place. He was able to stop by in the evening on his way home from work. Another neighbor took my son for the afternoon, so I could be free to go to the hospital.

I didn't get back to pick up DS until 9pm. They handed me some dinner. They even went to our house with DS to put the chickens to bed before dark.
I hope everybody (chickens and humans) are doing alright. Sorry to hear about the family medical problems. Hoping everybody is back to good health soon.

Sorry for all the horror. Prayers for everyone. Great to have good neighbors.

Thank goodness for good neighbors!!! I hope everyone is doing better today!

Alright what’s the best way to go about finding a home for this andulusian guy? I posted on a Facebook group and got nothing. I’m getting ready to work on moving the littles out since they aren’t exactly little anymore and would rather not integrate him, but also don’t want to keep him by himself in the garage.

also giving that Orpington some serious side eye. It was getting all big and tall when the chihuahua walked by, and is definitely now sporting a bit more wattle.

Unfortunately it's a problem many people have with no great or easy solution. I hope you find someone that wants him. Hang on until someone complains and deal with it then? Facebook, craigslist, local clubs, local feed store.... I think the others here have made recommendations but unfortunately I cannot add anything but "dinner". I'm sure someone will take a free meal if you have no other options. Local family in need may ease the decision?

Yeah he wouldn’t be my dinner. I couldn’t do that. Just like all the girls will get to live out there days here.
I’ll have to try Craigslist.

Unfortunately like lice, mites, and worms this is the dirty side of chicken owning. Having to put down the unwanted cockeral. :(

There's been a lot of talk about deworming products on BYC in the past few months and a number of products are no longer available it seems. What's a good dewormer (for proactive purposes just) and where to source it? That where to source it being important... I have no idea where to get the stuff, let alone what to get.

That said, I don't know of any presence of worms in the flock at all but would like to take a proactive measure. Ideally soon as we well be out of town next week so that can factor into the egg withdraw period.
