Illinois...

I don't have enough cucumbers to eat much less can. I see a lot growing but they're just not ready. My zucchini, on the other hand, is growing out of control. I'm getting these giant ones the length of my arm and 5-6 inches wide!!! They just pop up out of nowhere and suddenly there's more. Lots of banana peppers that I only planted because someone gave me some. I don't even eat them but I figured I'd see what grows and give them away. If my red and orange peppers would just get on board that'd be great! Tomatoes are all still green. Broccoli is looking good. Strawberries get pilfered before they're ready to pick.

So my youngest had the chickens out in the yard today and I think he didn't fully lock the gate when he put them back though he denies it. I was in the house and heard them shrieking and I look out the window to see the puppies in the yard and chickens flying all over the place. I start screaming "EVERYBODY OUTSIDE NOW!!!! CHICKENS ARE OUT WITH PUPPIES!!!! EVERYBODY NOW!!!!!!" and the boys all came running. I had to get Brittany Jae out of Kiara's mouth and she just kept biting and wouldn't let go. Luna had Clara. Got the puppies in the house, rounded up chickens, checked Brittany Jane and Clara for injuries (only minor thankfully!) and got everyone inside to count. Only 11. Somebody is missing so we're looking everywhere. The boys started walking down the block to check neighbor's yard once we couldn't find her in ours. Then I hear her from the garden. She got into the broccoli and wedged herself down low. Smart birdie!!!! OMG I need a stiff drink now!!!

Free banana peppers?! Where are you located? :drool
I have zucchini and yellow squash that should be providing abundantly, but the rabbits that keep evading me are snacking on them. I think they are eating the flowers. I picked a few, but now the plants need time to produce more flowers/squash. I set the live tap again for the rabbits in the mean time.

In the poultry scene, I think it's about time to put the adult ducks back in the duck pen with the not-so-little-anymore young ducks hatched this Spring. That means no more eggs on the ground in the chicken run hopefully.

Also, Farm and Fleet has a sale this week (I think it's still going on since I was there yesterday). $1 off bags of chicken feed. I'll take any savings I can get, especially since I was out of feed anyway.

Company from out of town arrives tomorrow. I just took a bath and found out there's a leak. Perfect timing of course. Fortunately, we have 2 full bathrooms. I think it's just the overflow drain leaking due to a bad seal with the tub. Hopefully I am correct because we can still take showers then, just no baths until I fix it. If it's worse and there's a leaking pipe, that's going to be tough.

I was afternoon feeding and a 3 day old poult came running up behind me. Didn't even know I had a turkey sitting. Went looking through the weeds and found bleached bones and feathers of an adult hen. I thought I was missing one this spring. Less than a ft away was the hen on a nest. Weird place to nest next to bones.
Let the little lose an it ran to mom. Put some food in front of them. Hopefully he stays put with Mom

Top right brown behind weeds is the hen

I've got a very interesting brooder here. Orpington, Serama, Quail, and Turkey siblings being raised by one confused little Serama Mama. Most hatched on 6-27, but an extra bonus turkey hatched on July 7th. Mama was already used to a variety of sizes and accepted the poult.

I'm keeping the poults for a couple weeks to make sure they're off to a good start before giving them away.
