Forgetting to close up the coop in almost #1 on my nightly nightmare list.

I closed the chicken coop and just got distracted , doing all sort of yard work late into dark, the pigeon loft aviary JUST SLIPPED ......................... and this just happened to be first time I forgot. BUMMMMMMMER. and SAD.

Sad day at the cavemans' corral. Forgot to close aviary and Rocky Raccoon got into pigeon loft and ate 2 adult pigeons and 1 baby unnamed Squeaker . No more......... Splash, and Gold finger. I'm not mad at Rocky, he only wanted a meal... REALLY MAD at myself for forgetting.

So sorry.

It's been a rough few days for many on this thread. Extra hugs sent to those battling illness & predators this week.

I am so sorry! Don't be so hard on yourself.

Wow 3 in one night! I bet you're glad the coop is locked up tight! The security cam is a great idea. My hubby likes the tech, but not the price tag - especially if it's for chickens.

Speaking of tech, as we were winterizing the coop, DH brought his iphone out. He placed it on a post so he could watch a tournament as he worked. The hens started to gather around & watched the screen. It seems like they would like to have their own mini TV to watch inside the coop.

We have a Coro Sussex & lav orp mix. My son named the chick "MINE." Later he named her "Nemo". She's used to being handled by young kids & may even enjoy it.

Nemo's over 5 months now & just got home from a bike ride.

I keep trying to rehome her but every time I prepare myself, the kids go & do something so outrageously funny. Who takes a chicken on a bike ride???? Just imagine a little boy with training wheels going up & down the sidewalk with a full-sized chicken on the handlebars.

Other than constantly being underfoot & begging for attention, she's a pretty good chicken. Still waiting for that 1st egg. (Because of her genetics, I'll likely be waiting a while.) It's getting less likely that we'll be able to part with this mutt. I have a feeling we'll have many stories to share about this one.

I would love to see her riding the handlebars, lol. She is a pretty girl!

Also is there anyone here from Palos Hills? I was doing some searching for any current Chicken Ordinances, and came up with an article in the Tribune about looking into back yard chickens. Since this is where we might be moving, I want to make sure. There are plenty of people with horses on their property, which is awesome, and my maybe new next door neighbor has bee hives, such a plus, but this article kind of scared me. They said that the mayor received a single complaint and thought maybe they should do something in regards of grazing livestock.
