Illinois...

Those rainbow spitz mixes are beautiful.

I'm so sorry about the loss. Even when it's not a favorite hen, it still hurts. If your incubator is full, I'll gladly help hatch more spitzes for you. I've got 4 hatches planned to start April 9th (egg set date) with plenty of space. I think I could fit up to 120 eggs!
What I won't have is the brooder space if all the eggs hatch. :thMy plan is to set 10-15 eggs in each location. One school has a plan for their chicks & the others return here. That's why I need to be careful, estimate the hatch rate, & limit myself on the number I set. (I also have a few back up foster homes if more chicks hatch than expected.)

It's so very, very hard when you have empty incubator space tempting you & a lot of eggs....... Yet I love DH & a happy marriage more.

I haven't fired up the inky yet. I was going to make sure that the ones I gave you yesterday started to develop. No reason why they shouldn't since I've seen Jake doing his job, but just wanted to give it one more week. That would also give me a little later hatch date that would be more on par with the ccl we want. They should integrate nicely together. The big inky is going to be for DS science experiment with hatch rate and collection time. Going to use the orps for that one. Should get some nice blacks, lavs, blues, and maybe, just maybe a silver laced.:fl

I plan on trying to get you 4 spitz eggs for each inky at the schools. Might be only 3 each with the loss of the hen. Only two laying right now since broody mama is busy with babies. Will try to get it up to you on the 7th.:)

@homeschoolin momma
I couldn't resist a quick peek at the white spitz eggs....
:wee
Most I could clearly see obvious development. One I saw faint veins but not the center. (Embryo could have been away from the edge, so it's a wait & see. After only 4 days in the incubator, I was surprised to see anything.)
:love

Fencing in the new run finally. Got side tracked from chickens putting together a swing set and laying mulch and a border recently. Today I finished the mulch under the swing set and got one of two fences built to enclose the run. I hope to install the second fence, gate and bird netting tomorrow evening if the rain will hold off and allow me to get out there. For now the chickens have free reign of the yard, which they are enjoying making a mess of.

Yay! I can't hardly wait for 3 weeks to pass!

Is there a way to put a box up there?

Until you take her to your friends house, I would just take a few of those scrap 2x4 pieces make a 3 sided box and then tie it to the metal shelf since the shelf has open spaces. Nothing fancy, just as simple as you can.

Great for all you who are prepping for spring/summer.

 I admit I never finished prepping for winter. The leaves rotted & smothered the grass. We normally have a guy mulch & dump it all in the garden but he had surgery. As we walk through the muddy yard, the boots are slipping &/or getting stuck in mud where there used to be grass. My what a mess we have!

It seems my time gets used up taking care of all the crisis-es from the kids & dog. I'd love a couple hours to clean out a few small garden beds or plant some future veggies. Perhaps I'll just buy plants this year.
