Illinois...

Thanks for that pointer maybe I'll put a chicken egg there since my turkey eggs are in the incubator. Yes I would like to know where she stays. Hopefully by morning she will have settled into the coop and we can give her eggs there.
last year my turkey hen figured out that fake eggs and chicken eggs were not turkey eggs. She moved nest sites a couple times and I would leave a fake and a chicken... Then she started jumping out looking for a better spot. I read someone elses hen could tell the difference, so I started leaving one of her eggs. It worked
So this year I saved the first week of eggs, along with any I had questions about, as 'bait eggs' . I was still using the 2nd egg laid until yesterday. I was worried about it exploding some day, it was from March

The rehearsal & recital went well. I'll be making a video. However it may take a bit because my family took a few videos (+ lots of photos). I'll try to compile the better ones. Things were very simple back when we used film..... far less pics to view.

This was the wild dance pose in the costume catalog.

So when I asked the girls to pose for me, I got THIS:
:lau

Here are some pics taken during the recital:

They also did a fun tap routine - with HATS!
They practiced dancing, twirling, & switching the hats as well as all the footwork.

My hens have been kicking the fake eggs out of the nesting boxes. Seems like a similar situation.

The garden is finally sowed. We'r sowed 20 rows in the ground and 2 large raised beds. There's 1 raised bed left to sow still with lettuce and spinach, but it is going to have to wait until I got back from out of town. Just arriving at the airport to go out East for work for a few days and then we are geared to the Dells for Mothers Day weekend.

Kn the note of the Dells, any thoughts on leaving chickens in the coop for 3 days with plenty of ventilation? Coop is 4x10 and there's 7 herns out there.

Its not that hot yet, and coop is good size. Make sure that you have plenty of water in multiple containers for them. A feeder like one used for dogs is also good. I have a few of these, from previous uses.
Not exactly, but similar in fashion.

Attach them or secure them so they do not fall over and spill.
If its going to be warmer, than expected, you can place a fan inside coop, and run it on low. Or on a timer, and only during the day. :idunno Your choice.

SOOO in the incubator I had a lone chick hatch out of my eggs sometime between 8 pm and 6 am of the 4th... they were due the 3rd. another egg looked light a late quiter or late so I left the eggs in.. this morning the 7th another lone chick hatched out of that batch. Latest I have ever had. If it was under a broody I would think someone added an egg

How did it get to be May already?!?
Well, just a reminder that May is the time for rare breeds show at Garfield farm museum in LaFox. If you can spare the time, it's very worth checking out the displays of a variety of farm animals, including some fine examples of poultry.
Garfield farm itself will as usual have their black and some auburn Java chicks available for sale.
Rare Breeds Show

May 19 11am-4pm. Breeders from around the Midwest display rare and historic livestock. Individual breeders may offer livestock, poultry, and byproducts for sale. $6 adults/$3 children under 13.
Check out their site:

I'd put out to a few of us the possibility of a get together that day, but it's commencement day for my daughter and I'll have to miss.
