Illinois...

Thank you all for the hugs.

He was huge. For anyone familiar with Aldi's and the boxes their chips come in he was almost too large large for one of their boxes.

I was so hoping he would make it.

It makes sense though why it was so sudden and why he had no respiratory symptoms in spite of breathing through his mouth.

His comb went deep red and then purple and almost black - purple.

I don't think there was anything I could do.

I also want to be sure to note that he has been eating and acting normally until today. He was also not overly thin.

:hugs
Yes that usually is a sign of a heart issue.
I have lost a lot of my CX mixes to that. I figure it's better to lose them rather than pass on the possibility it's genetic

yes that progression of comb color is typical heart issues :hugs
I guess you could have found a vet to do a heart transplant, of course you would have to supply a donor heart ;) ...

@Faraday40 thank you again for all youve done for me.:hugs DS loved on his chickies as soon as they were in the door. They went to the pool and immediately took dustbaths and settled in. We made it back just before the rain started too bad. Grandpa (dad) loved the bread. He munched on a slice before making down the street!:love
You're very welcome. DD enjoyed chick sitting, and I'm glad I could bring a bit of joy to your dad. I actually wanted to cook your family a whole meal, but bread was what I had the time for today. (BTW- It's @chickendreams24 's fav recipe. Now that I have the start of my herb garden, I was able to pick it fresh this morning.)

I'm glad your dad is staying with you for a while. Being with family helps. I'm also so happy you took the time off to be with your mom.
:hugs

I found the missing feet @BReeder! another byc member got a feedstore chick with an extra set https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...talk-2000-2100.966414/page-2493#post-21338679
