Your bowling ball lavs are looking good. (That's the shape I prefer & try to breed toward.) The stream-lined one is an obvious male. Not sure what's up with the bald one.

Thanks. We are sticking with our Rouens for now since we have 3 of them. I am wanting a single breed of ducks. The problem is that we may have 2 males and 1 female... I need to turn those numbers around

Here goes nothing! Going to give deviled quail eggs a try. Eggs are from my neighbor, cornwitch

and at the same time.
I have made them. They are a bit frustrating to make, but they are attractive for guests and tasty.

Whoo hoo! Came home from church and all chickens are accounted for. 12 yr old and I went out for observation and he spotted the coyote next to the creek. He took a shot, but it ran across the creek to the thick brush. Whether he made contact or not, we dont know. He doesnt think so, but I've seen him shoot. Hes a pretty good marksman. At least we are getting closer to getting this thing.

Our quail eggs are hatching!

They were expected tomorrow, but the first one hatched a few hours ago. I am halfway across the country in D.C. for work, but DW called to let me know. There are 38 eggs that made it to lockdown in a staggered hatch. We should be getting 20-24 tomorrow and the rest on Sunday. These eggs are from our current stock, and its very exciting to hatch our own eggs for the first time. It's so exciting that we are already collecting eggs for another incubation that I will set Tuesday I think (aiming for a Saturday hatch). Its likely going to be a quick clean out, air dry, reset. The addiction is real... Ideally they will all be butcher size before the real cold weather hits (going to be pushing into mid-late November).

My "last hatch" is due Sat. night. Today I was speaking with @homeschoolin momma and mentioned that it's not too late to squeeze in ONE MORE hatch.
