2 SLO orps are pipped but still working on hatching. Rest are out.

The "useless chicks" (aka seramas)

Happy Mama is in love with her babies. I'm going to keep them away from flock for a few days. I fear the turkeys may be slightly cannibalistic toward little fuzzies. Better to be safe.

She will get all 7 Spitzes and 6 SLO orps. The seramas will go to a friend's for a few weeks.

Did you introduce during the day? Or put them under her at night?

I locked up the coop for an hour and slipped 2 under mama during day. She seemed fine, so I then moved her into plastic tub and added more chicks.

I had a staggered hatch with some hatching last Thurs/Fri and more today. I decided to wait and add all the chicks at same time. So..... I had to play musical chicks. I dropped last week's chicks off at a friend's for a few days and then picked them up today. She wanted to help raise some chicks for me, so I exchanged today's seramas for last week's orps. Mama is a big clumsy orp, and the handful of seramas will work better as house chicks.

Sad news. Two dead turkey poults. I think the pecking got too intense. They seemed fine and all stuck together. Something happened between the evening and morning though.
So sorry, I think they might need more room. Mine run if they are bullied, but they have lots of places to get away.
