Illinois...

East side of Joliet has them
I was born and raised on the east side and never saw black squirrels. Not saying I disagree with you, just noting my shock. Always gray or brown.
I've only seen black squirrels up north Wisconsin.
Added..... wait, which east side? Ghetto east side or ingalls park east side? I'm from ghetto east side.

A week old today and singing and flapping away! So many wing and tail feathers growing in and the little stinkers have been learning how to kick bedding into their water the last 2 days so I put it up a little higher and now they try to get under it to knock it over. LOL!! Chickens!!

Just took these today:

This one of Millie cracked me up! She is definitely voted most likely to fly out of the brooder first...

Love the names!

Sorry you had another predator loss. I guess I'm lucky that my turkeys go in every night. They pretty much think they're chickens- except bigger bullies. My neighbors are trying to talk me into keeping them. (They really like the big, beautiful, curious males.) I keep saying that the turkeys are only temporary. The female may not be too bad since she doesn't bully, but I fear she'd be lost without her brothers.

@BReeder! Did you have just one female turkey or 2 females?
2 females

Winter is coming... Not quite ready.
I have been finally catching up on yard work. The chickens, turkeys and ducks got piles of grass clippings (no chemicals added to the lawn this year). The compost got quite a pile as well. I've had my fire pit burning for the days to get rid of logs, branches, twigs, etc. It's still going right now slowly burning what's left of a log that was nearly two feet in diameter. We cleaned up and mulched the flower beds around the house. I began tilling the garden, which needs a lot more tilling yet.
There's so much to do and so little time.

I was at Menards, getting some miscellaneous items, and walking past the BULB display, just could not hold back. Got some assorted Tulips, Hyacinths, Crocus , and another that I cant recall, or pronounce. :gig Will share a few with DD if she wants any. I will need to find the ideal spot and plant these this week or so. It is pleasant weather so far. :thumbsup

I was in shock too. I was delivering eggs and about fell over. South of I 80 on Richard less than a 1/4mile to first rd on left which turns into Elmer Ave.
I have heard people have seen them in pilcher park.

I live next to Higginbotham woods and have Gray and fox squirrels. I read the black is a color phase of the Gray.
