Check other chick suppliers like Blaines' Farm & Fleet, or the Feed Store. Let your fingers do the walking. The feed store on Belmont in Chicago where I purchased pigeon feed also sold chicks in the past. Much better option than ordering a small quantity, and being shipped. BTW, some hatcheries do not want to ship small orders... some have minimums like 15. That is for obvious reasons,, larger quantities stay warm together better.

Poor girl! Probably was something wrong though.

Millie has been sitting for about a week and a half now but she does get up every day to eat and walk around so hopefully she can make it another week if I order for next week. Now to see who has what. I've only ordered from Meyer before since all my others just came from the farm. Anybody have any good reviews on other hatcheries?
Not hatchery but Spring 2020 I ordered 12 cornish x for the freezer from Rural King in Peru (about 35 minutes from me). When I
went in to get them, they had also received mixed pullets on the same truck. I had a broody hen at home and thought ”why not?”. I got a cuckoo marans, a welsummer and an easter egger. The hen (not a first timer) took them without problem. All were actually pullets and continue to do well.

I ordered my 3 through Meyer (hatching Monday) but F&F said call tomorrow morning when they get some new ones in and I might be in luck. They actually have a lot right now but nothing white and Brendan will accept nothing less than an Eowyn (though he agreed to a lavender Ameraucana when a Leghorn wasn't available). So if they have anything good, I'll go get them tomorrow and do the deed tomorrow night. If not, at least I have 3 on order so they won't sell out and I can cancel this weekend if I find local.

and I can cancel this weekend if I find local.
Skip the CANCEL,,,, and just let Chicken trigonometry take effect. :old :gig
The Feed Store may have White Leghorns if they survive their 2 days of testing out. Kind of recall that was what they carried a long ago when I visited them. I rarely go there since I don't need pigeon seeds any longer. I used to unload in Bedford Park often, so was in the area to pick stuff up. (especially hay)

On a side note; If you do end up with too many chickens,, I can adopt some of the adult chickens you no longer prefer/desire to keep. I am hoping to get my larger coop built soon, like this summer sometime.
Baby chicks are not convenient for me for 2 reasons. Work and effort involved,, and chicks are seen as chicken nuggets by my cats. Once grown, cats are fine with them.
