Illinois...

Hi guys! I’m in the Chicago area and was wondering if anyone is selling or would be willing to sale me some hatching eggs?
Hi Ananta, welcome to the Illinois thread!
Do you have a preference on what kind of chicken do you want? I have hatching eggs available and I just finished up my first incubation. All the eggs were viable although I did run into some problems with incubation.
Anyway, tell us a little bit about what you want, there are a few of us with chicken eggs and turkeys too!

Whereabouts in the Chicago area are you? I am in the joliet area and currently have fertile appenzellar spitzhauben and serama eggs. My spitz have a 100% fertility rate and nearly that on hatching. Seramas are a little less than that. I have orpingtons, but right now they are not fertile.

Hi guys! Thanks for the reply and welcome! And I currently don’t have any hard preferences, eggs coming from a pretty healthy flock for a start, I’m pretty much looking to start my own small flock for mostly eggs/etc and go from there. Although, I am a sucker for purebred and unique and/or rare breeds, I do mainly want chickens for eggs/possible meat if needed(different egg color layers are also a weakness). So if you have any cool looking chickens that lay well enough,

I’m definitely interested! I don’t mind a bit a travel too(I’m near Hyde Park area)!

Welcome to the thread. :welcome

Homeschooling mama has some nice spritz's.

Faraday has nice orps

I have turkey eggs but they are winding down laying and going broody

I have orps and seramas- could also throw in an EE. Orps are not as fertile but hatching. If you want chicks or poults I have some hatching next weekend. Ducklings in a few more weeks. The seramas are usually very fertile but many hens have recently contracted "broody fever" They are ridiculously stacking themselves in the nest boxes and stealing all the eggs- trying to hatch them.

I have a full broody choir every time I open the lid to the nest box. Yesterday we were playing a game. Open - squawking Closed - quiet. It reminded me of the old Parkay commercials

So if you have any cool looking chickens that lay well enough,
Is this cool enough looking? Dalmatian chicken with a Mohawk.

He's playing mama to this year's Easter Hatch (also trial 1 of his experiement). They are imprinting on him. He's hoping to talk me into keeping one.

While I was gone with my oldest, my other 2 did a great job keeping things going -- especially in that nasty storm. I was in lockdown at Midway when the worst of it hit after being delayed several hours. My 15 year old got out to the coop, made sure everything was locked up tight and arranged Millie and the babies so that if any water got in, they'd stay dry. Atta boy!!

Today I got out there and got a peak at the littles after a few days of being gone. They're already so much older looking!

She has been keeping the babies under her in that blue turned over bin but for the first time today she came out to the run for a quick snack (without them). She didn't seem too upset by the other ladies wanting a peak but they were not allowed any closer.

Looks like you had a good trip.

Glad the storm went ok.

Storm was mainly lighting and half inch of rain
