I know of Centralia, I used to buy several Paso Fino horses from a gentleman just south of that town. Ron Hickam was his name...not sure if he still is in business but it has been over at least ten years I've seen or heard from him.
Hey peeps in DuPage county (currently or previously). We're moving in this area and would love feedback on chicken friendly towns! Please see my post here with our specifics/requirements: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=368624
just waiting for 18 hens to start laying here just outside of Springfield?
I have two SLW roosters, 4 SLW pullets, 2 RIR pullets, and Easter Egg Pullet, one White Leghorn Pullet, 4 black and 6 red sex-links.....
I was just going to do a few chicks and do eggs....but now....I might do some hatching and some meet birds and keep fresh pullets going into and out of my laying flock....what do you think? Where do you take you chickens to get processed and how many do you take at a time? 25?
, rsf31tmp!
I'm about 2 hours from you. Just FYI, I butchered my roosters--processing is pricy at a locker. I loved the taste of the meat (RIR's), but i was disappointed in how little meat there was, in this dual-purpose breed. IF I was going to grow for meat, I think I'd try a meat breed, like Cornish Cross.

Was it in Walnut Hill? My brother boarded his cutting horse there for several years, and then they loved him so much, he sold him to them when he got out of the competing.
