I'm a newbie at this whole chicken raising thing, any tips and/or suggestions highly appreciated!!

Not sure if the chickens may peck and eat it? Personally, I use dried grass clippings and leaves, about 6" deep. No smell and just needs to be raked over on a daily basis and lasts around 4 months or so before I replace it.

An update on my dehydrated chick, it seems like it's making progress, thank G-d! It's poop though is a bit whitish, but the regular black/brown color is also there, is that a sign for anything? Furthermore, by us it's already late in the evening, this chick is still falling asleep standing up while its friend is sleeping the usual way, sitting. Should I be concerned that it won't make it til the morning? We're still trying to make it drink regularly, but eventually when I need to go sleep, I wanna know if it'll die on me in the middle of the nite, should i be concerned?

Oh, and one last thing-this dehydrated chick also has a slightly crooked beak, and it's also holding its head sideways (maybe it's bec of its weakness...) is there perhaps a connection to all of this, and is this all normal?
