off-grid hen
Songster
The two largest eggs shown in the photo are Dom eggs. The smallest egg is an egg from my largest partridge rock. The egg size fluctuation is quite extreme, even with my brown leghorns. The girls finally get up to almost "large" on the egg scale, then squeeze out a small egg. I just find it strange, since I've read several places that PR's lay large eggs, and Doms lay medium. I suppose it could be related to the hatchery's breeding stock, or that my PR's were so late to come into lay, but they were a year old on April 21st. Any feedback for this newbie?
