I hatched some chicks in May in my classroom and kept 2 and 1 mystery chick. The egg was so tiny and the new babe looked like a tiny sparrow. It's not friendly and very skittish. I have cut his wings back because he got out of the run flew up to the garage roof and then all the way to the front of the house and landed on top of our car. He or she has a long tail which helps with his aviator skills! It does not make a clucking sound but a whistle. When it comes to treats the silkie is more aggressive at getting the treats.

Thanks a million!

Looks like a pheasant to me also. That tail is certainly not a chicken tail. No wonder if flies like a champ and is not sociable.(at least yet) Who knows what else they hatched in class.

Hi and welcome to BYC - hope you enjoy your not so chicken :)

Best wishes

Thanks a lot for your replies! I sure appreciate your welcome and help. Hmmm, I guess learning about raising chicks isn't enough...I need to learn about pheasants maybe. Pheasant did come into my mind, but I pushed it aside because I looked at pictures of different pheasants and didn't come up with a match.
I will post it on the BYC Forum
