Too bad it's for somethin rotten. I am one of the many local people who have just been screwed over by an asphalt company from out of town. I was quoted 2-3 k and got a bill for $5600. I had the Sherriff's deputy out this morning and added my *name to the list to the many others who were scammed. The news team came out shortly after as a follow up to the segment they did yesterday....which my mom's friend caught and called my mom and gave her the numbers to call to report this scam.

This sucks.

oh AND I had a local contractor stop by and tell me it's on too thin and won't last and he could have and would have put in a ditch in front of my garage because the drive slopes and I know all the rain drains there. The other guys made a little speed bump and said that would stop it and then it would drain to the yard but now that I look, I can see it's going to puddle in front of the walk in door to the garage. hurumph.

Ugh, so sorry. It amazes me how shady people can be. Not the fifteen minutes of fame you were looking for, but I hope the law helps you all.

Common scam here in NJ with a slight modification. They stop by and say, "We're doing a job in the area and will do your drive at 50% of normal rate if you can pay cash." People go to the bank, get cash, and get an inaequate job. They seem to show up every year around this time. Hopefully, you did not pay them.

Yes! I have 120 ft gravel driveway (new construction) and when we moved in we were approached by two men claiming the same thing with North Carolina plates. We went with a local company but yes they were shady

They're paid and the check has cleared. ...sigh...

They're whole thing was...they were doing another job...they have some left over and they'll sell it to me for $2 a square foot that's including labor...so originally I was looking at a grand...then "bossman" shows up and says, he got another truck to come with more product and would I like to do the whole drive? I ask what were were talking? He says, like 2 grand....so I say yes. And then he comes with a bill for 5600...that's a whole lot different than 2 to 3 thousand.

and the grand was going to cover some patches I needed and I stepped out to run an errand and get back and they are prepping the whole drive...so i was like, wait up...but then thought, it does make sense to do it all and if it's 2 grand...I may as well. But I was NOT expecting a bill for a WHOLE lot more.

Typically a truck with out of state plates and a magnetic 'sticky' company name on the door. The 'representatives' had a good appearance and were well spoken, but my philosophy is, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is." they made the local paper two years in a row, but haven't reappeared this year, YET.

Ours is in the paper apparently but i haven't seen it and it was on the news last night I was told.

I didn't see any magnets on the trucks but I saw a LOT of heavy duty equiptment and I have thier card and it all looked legit.
