I had 3 dozen eggs in the frig last night, so decided to use some up. I did a test batch of pickled eggs. Now, I have not eaten a pickled egg since I was a kid, but thought I'd give it a go. Did one with beet juice that I think might be on the sweet side and a spicy batch that likely will be very spicy. Used recipes off the net. I only did 4 jars with 4 to 5 eggs in each -- one set for my friend to take home to feed hubby. They look good I guess.

I've been taking the chicks out 2 or 3 times a day and letting them run all over the living room. Of course, poop everywhere. I just pick it up with a damp cloth. Baby Eve is getting along pretty well and seems to be happy to have company. When I get her out of her cage she leaps and bounces all over. The babies are super fast and enjoy climbing on me and peeking under the couch with Eve. The also take mock dirt baths on the carpet.

How old are the babies now? Do you keep them all together in the same brooder? I had littles that I had to keep separated, but it was 4 against 12. The 12 were up to 4 weeks older and kept pecking at the babies. I'm glad Eve is nice to them, she probably doesn't realize that they are so much younger.

Got my first egg from a little pumpkin serama pullet. I have 2 older girls in that pen but they are still raising little ones, so I don't think either of them are laying again yet.
Bigger egg is from a bantam cochin pullet, not sure which girl, she started not long ago too.

Congrats! Is the smaller egg just really small, or is the other one just really huge?

I didn't think I would be so excited but I couldn't help it!he supports the chickens and will enjoy the eggs but he just isn't into the chickens like me:)

We have the first fable and my brother has the second and third and every now and again we will just up and play it and beat it,and then we play around on it for a while, the game really is a fun game:)

I looked at your egg pictures again and yes, it does look green. When I was responding previously, the top 2 photos had scrolled off and the bottom photo looks beige. It's beautiful!

Such a cute little egg -- kind of pear shaped. Congratulations. Both beautiful eggs!

Baby Eve is 1 month 9 days and the little ones are 9 and 10 days. Eve does occasionally grab somebody's toes, but overall gets along very well. I think the number of little ones keeps her from being overly aggressive. Eve is in a ferret cage next to the brooder for now. Maybe another week or so I might try housing them in the same place. I get Eve out first and she stands outside the brooder waiting for her friends. So cute. I'm going to try getting outside today to work on building the in-coop brooder, but my old injured leg/knee are giving me fits.

You're killing me! They're so cute, I'm glad your big little girl has some buddies now.:) I've got a jar of pickled eggs on the counter, I've had them for probably a year i guess i bought them to look at lol! I'd eat them but i forget they're here, at least they won't go bad right?

If they are store bought I would think they should be okay. These aren't canned for long term storage though, so recipes said 2 to 3 weeks in refrigerator.

Aww i love little seramas they're just so dang tiny! I miss having bantams i would get more but i honestly think they'd have a hard life unless i kept them in a run. Maybe when i get older and big chickens are just too much I'll start a bantam gang, definitely with some seramas and Japanese those just tickle me. :)

Hey peeps! Got some catch up to do!

Let's play a game.. :) "You know you're a crazy chicken lady when..."

So. I'll start. :)

You know you're a crazy chicken lady when...

You were on the radio show (again) on the ride home, talking about your chickens; and

You just made oatmeal for your chickens (with cayenne) while your poor dogs and husband go hungry!

XO,

Cindi

You know you are a crazy chicken lady when...your Chicken Coop is decorated for Christmas and you house isn't...

As for an egg update...I'm getting two eggs a day most days from Bonnie & Esmarelda (one blue one brown). My Easter Egger and Olive Egger are both squating, making nests in the nesting boxes, have very red combs and are submitting to Zaffer their man of the coop. So, I'm hoping to find more pretty eggs any day now!

Our Thanksgiving was quite and relaxing! I made Cornish Hens, cornbread dressing, roasted root veggies, deviled eggs and a creamed Brussels sprout casserole. Oh and cake! We watched the parades and a marathon of Vikings.
