:welcome from Mossyrock, Washington State... most start laying about 6 to 8 months but kiki is correct food, light stability all can play a role
 
:welcome Silkies are more an ornamental bird than layers. They are also one of the best broody breeds. Which means they go broody often and want to sit on & hatch eggs.
If you don't have roosters that won't happen. Unless you put fertile eggs under them when they happen to be "going broody."
