Sheepgal, no, there is only the one. Poor little thing....so lonely. It has one of my dogs stuffed toys to cuddle with for now. Still looking for another baby duck, or 2, or 3!

Besides the thought of it being lonely, and cold without another duckling I'd be happy to hatch even one duck! Blessed even!

After reading so many posts it seems like actually hatching a duck is just a dream! I cant imagine how happy Id be if it actually happened! There is sooooo much to know, and so many things that can go wrong! I'm considering not hatching eggs at all, and just buying a few ducklings this Spring.

I kinda know how you feel... last year I desperately tried hatching turkey eggs... I incubated a couple dozen shipped eggs over a couple of months and only got one to hatch.. another pipped but sat in it's shell for 3 days. When the one hatched itself & dried off, I hatched the other out of it's shell.. I was NOT going to lose my turkeys only potential friend.

It was scary cuz the one I forced out of it's shell bled a little... was weak and actually it's head looked a little crooked (I've never admitted this in public but yes I hatched it) and now.. at almost 6 months.. it's the most beautiful of the two turkeys! Healthy, happy & laying eggs.

Unfortunately in a way, I have 2 hens.. and no Tom. It will take another year OR LONGER before I can get a mate for them, if I'm lucky I got my order in before they hatchery was sold out for the year this year and I might get some poults in a few months, but it'll be a year before they are mature enough to be considered mates.

What an ordeal we go through for these breeds we love
I hope you find some friends for your little guy.
Good luck!
