here's a thought... a lot of people in the service industry are treated VERY badly - maybe they are thinking that if they give a little sugar they will get some back?

personally i call everyone honey - its a way of people personable and friendly. most likely they call everyone the same thing and because you are sensitive to it - it hurts YOUR feelings.

but some folks - we undercoversouthernerwannabe's..... love it when someone speaks our language.... or takes the time to be a little nice. unlike the sneering teenager behind the counter with the bad attitude who mumbles 'whatdoyouwantcanihelpyou.. whatever.'

and i look EXTREMELY young also. at 42 i still havent gotten to the 'you'll appreciate it' when i still get carded... but i have learned to laugh about it. i've never objected to when someone is trying to be nice. how's about if you call 'em 'honey' right on back? guaranteed you'll get a warm smile - one woman at the drive thru even gave me a blessing for being nice back to her.

I used to get that when my twins were born, or when I was carrying them. I was 20 and looked 12-15! I hate people reacting to me saying babies have babies! I snapped back at an older man once after he said that. "I'll have you know I'm 20 and have been married for a year and a half before my twins were born!" I felt better, but really it isn't any ones business.
I was wit my Dad one Day and a young man said to my Dad, Nice to have such a young and beautiful woman on your arm, I smiled and said to the young man, Thanks and he's my Dad too!
The guy looked so puzzled as we walked away!
Take it in stride, I still look young for my age, but I'm not as thin as I once was, so I don't get as many comments as I used to.
I rather look younger than older, my DH was accused of being ours youngest son's Grandpa!!!
I had a field day with that one!

Whats wrong with someone being nice to you? Maybe i dont get it...

If someone is that nice to me at a store or anywhere i am very appreciative for it...its pretty rare nowadays....
