I'm setting eggs tonight 2/2/12, any hatching buddies out there wanna join me?

I just candled the eggs, in 13 of them, I see a dark blob & an air cell. In one I see no air cell but the whole egg looks dark. One looks like a blood ring, I'll give it a few more days & candle again to see if anything changes. It is very hard to candle these Ameraucana eggs. Maybe I should have gone for light brown eggs or white eggs for the first time! lol

Blobs & air cells are a good thing, right? Today is day 9.

Definitely blobs and air cells are good things but sometimes you can't see the air cells because the eggs are too dark or blotchy.

I had a blood ring too very definite all the veins had settled into a ring around the egg poor baby. 27 out of 38 are alive and kicking though which is so cool I am hoping they all develop and hatch out. 2 weeks to go!!

I have the Hovabator Genesis 1588, & I dont have another humidity gauge to see how accurate the digital one is or isnt. Would one bought @ Lowes be good enough??? What should the humidity be at anyways?? I thought it was about 45%?? But then I hear about dry hatches?? What on earth is that? No water till lockdown??

If you have the genesis 1588 then just make sure the middle water trough has water in it for the first 18 days then fill the next inner trough at lock down...it will be easy if you follow this and the hatch will be great...don't worry too much about what the gauge says...as long as it is between 40-50 is good...

Thanks dwegg, I'm trying not to fret over them too much, but its hard since its the first time incubating.

We set a mix of eggs on Friday night. We have a hovabator also. Hopefully Thursday we will be candling to see if anything is happening. It is like being pregnant all over again, nervously checking the incubators temp and humidity every time we walk by.

Our 6 year old is extremely excited. We set 8 eggs and hopefully we will have at least 2 hatch, besides us being extremely disappointed I do not want him being disappointed.

I candled last night. My 10 LF Cochin eggs are all clear but one. Out of 30 Lavender Ameraucana eggs, I could tell 5 had blood rings and 5 were developing. So, I have no idea what's going on with the other 20. They are to dark to see anything.

Darn incubators... I had 97-102 degrees in the first 3 days and I am sure that killed more eggs than I can tell. -sigh-

I have 100% of my JG ,Olive Egg layers, coop A of blrw.
only 2 of the Java eggs had bloodrings the rest were good.
Slw were clear (they just started laying and the rooster has to run them down) :)
Coop b of blrws clear ( just coming out of a molt was hoping they were breeding again)
so I got 50 out of 60 good.
The first batch just had one peep. so it wont be long till we have fuzzy butts here.

Blueberry ~ Don't feel bad my first hatch was shipped blrw eggs (hatched 4 roosters)
the second one was Cuckoo Marans & EE that had blue eggs.
My oels are so dark must candlers can not get enough light into them.
If I can see more light then dark their no good.
the ones 1/2 &1/2 I leave till day 18 all dark ones go to lock down.

You'll have the swing of it soon.
Good job everyone.
Sorry for the ones that had clear eggs and good luck next time

Soaring chicks....do you sell your eggs? I really want to do some blrw at some point this spring, they are sooooo pretty! Thanks for the advice! Now the countdown to lockdown!
