For me the quoted statement reaks of arrogance... It makes assumptions I personally am not comfortable making.. Yes other species are different than us... But again so are different cultures, races, religions.
What you misconstrue as arrogance is merely common sense. I realize that is not so common any more but sense, nonetheless. I'm not a bit arrogant about animals and their purpose on this earth. Nor do I misquote the Bible as saying the animals are "here to serve us". I haven't seen anyone say that on this forum...this is placing words in our mouths.
The Bible states man was given dominion over the animals. Dominion as defined by Webster's is the "rule over or the power to rule". But...Webster's wasn't around when the Bible was being penned, now were they?
Dominion more properly denotes a benevolent leadership, providing and caretaking, a looking after the well-being of the subjects under your care.
Like your chickens....if you picked up and moved tomorrow and wanted to take them with you, would you give them the choice to stay or go? Or would you just move them along with your household? Such arrogance to assume they wish to go with you to a new home!!!
You move them because their care is a responsibility you have assumed and you have deemed it best for them to move with you and that you continue to be their caregiver, provider, flock leader.
When someone states that God gave man power over the animals it is not necessarily the whole picture. You would do well to actually read the Bible and try to understand before you misquote, call names and basically skew everything that comes out of a Christian's mouth.
