I'm so old I Remember when:

I still have a soap dispenser from Viagra, back when it first came out. I worked in a doctor's office.
I know a doctor who has a "anti menstrual cramp ankle band" on a bulletin board in his house. He said he asked the company about them and they sent him a box to hand out to patients. He said he didn't give them to any patients because it was a scam, and so he gave them to some people who would get a laugh out of it.

wonder what rationale was used to pawn them off on people.

A bit off thread, but given that it’s easier to pull a tooth from a hungry lion WHILE it’s fighting a hungry bear than it is to re-home a rooster I started to wonder what hatcheries do with all of the boys they hatch out, given that most people want hens. anyone have any insight?
The ones that don't sell as live chicks are killed and processed.

You really have to ask? :(

…yes, sorry. don’t hate me.
Well they generally speaking ‘get rid of them’.

They are humanely euthanized via CO2 and then shredded.

Yup when you have hundreds of thousands of product that you need to shift you do what you have to do. Businesses cannot afford to have feelings.

In Europe they have policies in place for hatcheries to use the males for meat.

They are also testing out ways to check for gender at day 1 of incubation, then cockerel eggs are sold as eating eggs but labelled as such.

Here in Canada they are also working on technology for gender testing:

Won’t be long now before we have this available everywhere.
