I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember when I was a child there were no car seats for kids.

I used to ride standing up in the front seat. There were no worries about being thrown in a collision. Parents and grandparents had an auto brake that swung out as they touched the brake pedal. Their arm would fly out and pin you so tightly to the back of the seat your could hardly take a breath.

We also rode many times to the store in the bed of a truck. No one even thought twice about it!

Then when my newborn grandson came home from the hospital I was told to let him sleep on his back. We never did that! You put them on their tummy in my day!

I suppose we are just lucky to have survived childhood! :idunno
I remember my mother had a particularly hair-trigger and strong auto-break - I am surprised I survived her efforts to keep me safe.
The one time we were in a collision she was rear-ended while stopped at a stop sign. I was in the very back - it was a hatchback and the space under the hatch door was a favorite ride location for us kids. We were all tossed around back there but managed to untangle ourselves with minimal damage.

What was Catholic school like?
I have nothing to compare it to, I went for 12 years. I feel like I got a good education and I appreciate the sacrifices my parents made to make sure all 4 of us kids were able to attend. Especially my Dad, since he wssn't Catholic. There were a couple of nuns that were excellent educators.

But I'm no longer Catholic.

I guess I should say it felt safe. There was discipline there, and order and respect. I know the public schools in Denver at the time lacked those things and scary things happened there. This was in the 60's.

Both my nieces attended catholic school even though they are not, the alternative was the high school they did not want to attend. Also my youngest niece played sports and the catholic school had an eggcellent sports programme.

They weren’t big on the uniforms but I told them hey it’s easier then getting up in the morning and trying to decide what to wear!

Ahhh the 70s/80s…..

Not if they fit good!

I had a pair of white ones too. Didn't wear them to school though, it was a Catholic school. Uniforms! I weighed 93 lbs when I graduated, had just turned 17. Sigh.
Never wore white, it was a colour I didn’t like, or red. All my shorts were nice pastel pinks, purples and blues 😊 I was such a girlie girl way back then.

Now I look like a bag lady! And smell like horse poop! 😆

I ran into someone I knew in a Blockbuster once when I was dressed, er, comfortably. She hadn't noticed me till I greeted her. She blurted, "oh, sorry, I thought you were a baaaa--" and then clamped her mouth shut, obviously embarrassed. "A bag lady?" I said, laughing. She goes, "Well, uh." Cracked me up. And at that time in my life I probably did smell a bit horsey. Best smell in the world. Come here, sister! :hugs

Hahaha - yep had a couple of those encounters also. And yes nothing like the smell of fresh hay, pine wood shavings and horses all mixed together 😊

Sharing supper 😊
