I'm so old I Remember when:

Once you hit it the first time, thereafter you are watching your thumb to make sure you don't hit it again which in turn makes it become the target.
I now use screws for my fencing - the boards hold better and no thumbs involved 😆
Also no tendinitis from hammering.

I remember when there were no cordless saws and drills, I cut many a fence board with a hand saw - gawd 😟😟

When the cordless drills came out it was a game changer for my tinkering in the barn, and then the cordless saws came out - well holy Dinah I was in my glory. Now they even have cordless chainsaws!!! Oh and don’t forget those reciprocating saws - I call mine The Beast.

I am enjoying modern times! Wish I had these tools 40 years ago!

Those little 'U' shaped tacks are the worst. Hold the wire with one hand, the nail with the second and swing the hammer with the third.
Oh yes horrid things those fence staples - someone should invent a tool to insert those suckers! They were part of the reason I tore out my mesh fencing and went back to 4 board fencing.

I still do that! It takes about five minutes to saw a 2 x 4. Good muscle building…
My batteries all died yesterday so while one was charging I tried to cut some OSB with the hand saw - yep not happening! I just don’t have the strength any more. Too old!

Fencing: DH and I put up a MILE of woven wire fencing, long ago. I became expert at driving steel posts in with the 'pounder', whatever it's called, and all those fence staples. Never again! Just keeping it in reasonable shape is almost too much. The electric tape and rope on top, all replaced this year, fun.
And we still have horses, WHY?!?
