I figured you would use the pen to rewind the tape if it got pulled out…looks like I’m right

I remember renting read-aloud tapes from the library. My favorite one was about John Quincy Adams.

Yes, use the pen to rewind the tape when the tape machine "ate" it and you had to pull YARDS of it out of the guts of the machine.

When I was dating my 'starter wife' in the early 70's that was her go to form of entertainment. I would pull up at her Dad's house to let her off, and that would trigger the retching. After a few times I would just drive by and park down the block until she finished.
(Looking back, I think she was allergic to the formaldehyde.)
