I'm so old I remember the episode of Gunsmoke when someone with a score to settle with Festus had come to town to shoot off the "Hangy Down" part of his ear. I remember how the Marshall tried to reason with him it seemed rather fair....

I guess I'm not old enough to remember that but old enough to remember meeting Festus once at the American Royal in KC

I didn't watch the show much but I do remember his character. But no he seemed like a regular guy

I have a tendency to look for I Love Lucy reruns when I need a laugh. They made a movie called The Long Long Trailer that is pretty funny. Clean humor. A lot of people today probably wouldn't be able to sit through it since it is devoid of blood, violence, cursing and nudity. Then again, some people cannot appreciate good old fashioned humor.
Gunsmoke was a favorite in our household. Being low on the hierarchy family chain, I had to watch what all those older than me chose.

Old fashioned humor is seen as boring.
My generation's humor is seen as offensive.
Today's kids think Skibidi Toilet is humor.
