I only started having school lunches in high school. Before that, in grade school, I walked to school, as well as back home for lunch and then back to school. And it wasn't just next door either.

Down our way they will close/ delay school in a heartbeat over ANY possible maybe snow dusting.Nowadays, school buses don't run if there's even a *possibility* of inclement weather, but the schools are open or else they don't get funded for that day.

Can't remember how long, at least an hour though as I was able to watch the Flintstones at noon and part of the farm report after that before leaving again. Took about 10-15 minutes to walk, by myself or with the neighbours. I'm not old so...Probably walked to school in the snow while carrying heavy books, I know I did.
