I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember collecting bottles to sell. I also remember the wooden crates the drinks were stored in.

Drink bottles were glass with a metal top, stored in wooden crates. No plastic. Even juices were in glass bottles. There was a time even milk was sold in glass and sanitized for reuse.
I still have one wooden crate that held 6 packs of Cokes.
We used to walk down the roads looking for bottles that people flung out their car windows. We could turn them in and buy candy when we got to the store.

The store that bought our bottles had a big candy rack. Guess where our bottle money went? :gig
