I'm so old I Remember when:

Actually, all six of us girls still have our Cabbage Patch dolls. We loved them, my mom and dad had to save so much money to buy us all dolls for Christmas that year. 1984. My mom has mentioned how it was THE toy to buy and they had to wait in huge lines to get them. Before we got those dolls, all the other dolls we had were handmade by my mom. Yes, we still have those too
I never had Cabbage Patch (I think I am too old) but I do have several dolls that my mother made for me. And amazingly I have one her mother made for her.

OK, now for that old memory. Shortly after Y2K was over a friend of mine was getting a PC worked on that he used for his business. The tech that was doing it was a retiree from NASA. The tech was telling us stories that don't make the news of the goings on back then at the space center. The space center had a room with a mainframe that was finicky and needed a little special treatment every so often. One day during a tour by some of the big wigs from DC who were voting to fund NASA while they were observing what the Mainframe could do it went on strike. That's when this retired tech told us about how in order to wake it up sometimes he simply had to find a special spot in the floor and jump up in the air and land really hard a few times and that would get the mainframe running again. That was heavy duty on the percussive persuasion effort but it worked.
