I'm so old I Remember when:

I've heard centigrade used somewhere (I can't remember where) but I figured it out real fast.

I think the last time I heard centigrade used might have been in the mid 80's. It was used for weather reports.

There was talk of that down here years ago but the public fought it. So now the price of copper is so high that pennies just aren't what they used to be. I'm not sure how much copper is in a penny. I have so old wheat pennies I'm hoarding.

So one chose to degrade the currency while the other built inflation in to the prices. Same result in the long run.

My mom worked as a switchboard operator when they still had to manually connect calls.

I got fired from my job operating one of those because I listened in to some conversations.
I was in High School - it was a summer job.

See, there's the difference between our countries: over here, the decision was made and we learned to adapt (no pennies, $1 and $2 dollar coins, metric system).

Oh it was well deserved.
You wear headphones and when a call comes in you say ‘connecting you now sir’ and plug in the call.
You are supposed to unplug yourself but there is a switch that allows you to stay plugged in and listen.
We were convinced this guy was a drug dealer so were fascinated to hear his conversations.
Well he figured it out and demanded I be removed from the building immediately.
It was fun while it lasted, but I got a better paying summer job the next day painting the shelves on a library down the road.

Painting shelves doesn't sound like fun since you can't eavesdrop on your local neighborhood drug dealer, especially in a library.

I learned touch typing also. Still use it. DH one day said he wondered how I could type so fast and watch tv at the same time.

As for remembering when, anybody old enough besides me to remember when JFK was assassinated? I was in the 5th grade and remember the school principle coming into the room and telling us that the president had just been killed. She was a tall, slender woman stern but kind with her hair in a bun and I remember she was crying.

So anybody old enough to remember the Cuban Missile Crisis?

I did learn how to touch type and can do it on just about any keyboard, though there are some that are so terrible it makes it hard to type in general. It's been a very useful skill and one everyone should know. I can also sort-of touch type on my phone.
