I remember long lines to get gas, and only being able to buy it on odd or even days, depending on license plate. We were 121WLM, so we could only buy gas on odd numbered days.

And I even remember the license plate!!!

I learned to drive a manual in a Citation.

Sadly manuals are going out of style now as everything gets dumbed down. What the heck is an auto-manual anyway?

Yeah, I sure miss a manual transmission! Our current car is the first automatic I've had since my 1987 Chevy Sprint.

Occasionally, I still try to step on the clutch when I start the car.

I don’t know that there were automatic transmissions when I learned to drive.
My Dad made me learn how to double clutch aka double de-clutch. I don’t think it was actually necessary by the time I was old enough to drive.
