I'm so old I Remember when:

I’ve taken to home gardening, chickens, home preserving and bulk buying(when necessary). This has the dual benefit of making us more self reliant AND it reduces my contact with the public.
Been doing all this my whole life. Literally, since I was little, I was growing food and canning right along side of my parents and grandparents

There is actually a scientific study (not a chance I will find it) that demonstrated a connection between high levels of hygiene in early childhood and later allergies.
Something about how exposure to grime as a little kid primes your immune system in a good way.
My mother used to say a bit of dirt never did any harm and provided trace elements (said, for example, in the context of pulling a carrot and just shaking it off before eating it -which horrified my grandmother).
Turns out my mother may have had the right idea all along.
In my family the saying was "everybody eats a pint of dirt before you die." I'm making sure my grandkids are learning it as well.

... those HORRIBLE girls' gym uniforms! Ours were awful yellow shorty-dresses, with ... gasp ... matching BLOOMERS!
Elementary school we got to wear out regular clothes but had to bring canvas sneakers. Junior high was when we had gym uniforms. Ours were one-piece made from heavy tee-shirt material. The top was medium blue and white striped with a white collar and the shorts part was solid blue. Blessedly in high school we got to bring our own shorts and tees from home. 3 years of embarrassment was only mitigated by the thought that every other girl had to wear the same outfit.
