I'm still shaking, WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES

I completely agree with you. She has crossbred Siberian Huskys and Alaskan Malamutes and she has a lot of them.
She knows she can't control them. Our side of the road is semi rural, (she's the closest neighbor on that side of me at a quarter mile away).
Across the road are subdivisions and sometimes I see her chasing them through the subdivision when they get out.
Animal control said they have people looking for dogs like that so they may be rehomed. Probably somebody looking for a dog to chain in a junkyard. (I hope not)

I often get on my soapbox about domestic cats too. IMO they are an invasive species that belong inside the home. They get well fed and get turned out to unfairly compete with native predators for a limited supply of prey. The same goes for the dogs. I know they are well fed but it's what they do. Dogs and cats kill for the fun of it, not cause they need to.
A different neighbor has a cat I can't keep out of my garden. I've seen it killing the lizards, toads and frogs that are out there controlling insects. When it gets tired of that game it turns it's attention to rabbits and songbirds.

I am sorry for your loss! It really hurts when it is someone else's fault. I hope you can reason with her and find a solution to keep both of you happy. She like so many people only think about their own desires to have pet and not how it will affect anyone else. Good Luck!

Me too! I have a spitz (miniature american eskimo) and everyone is suprised how well he behaves with people and farm animals! He knows the difference between animals that are supposed to be here and those that are not. He never once has offered to hurt any of our animals but does a great job guarding against preditors. He was trained to be outside and stay on our property. He runs free but when he first came to stay with us he was trained by an invisible fence for a year. He respects the boundaries still a year since his collar was removed. He is a happy spoiled dog that gets more attention than most house dogs. It was a long training experience for both of us but totally worth it. Now everyone enjoys spending time with him and go outside just to hang out with him. Training is the key to having pets. It a responsibility not a choice if your going to own any pet.

However I hope this lady with the problem dogs realizes it is her fault and not the dogs and takes responsibility for her lack of action. To place the dogs in appropriate homes and not replace them with other dogs she does not plan to train.

I'm so sorry!! What a horrible thing to happen. Hugs to you, and your remaining flock.

As a dog owner in a fairly rural area of So Cal suburbia, one thing I do not tolerate is my dogs wandering. I don't care how harmless they are, they don't belong on my neighbors' property. I am highly irritated by people that think their dogs are just so cute, or special, or whatever, that they can go wherever they please. I have a neighbor with a Great Dane, that is very confrontational, intimidating, and unfriendly, that they let off leash, and let wander into my yard. They think I'm horrible because I have 2 "evil pitbulls" that are walked on leash, stay at home, don't growl at people, love the chickens, and have NEVER gotten into trouble.

Any breed of dog that is allowed to run amuck, will get themelves in trouble, and do just that. Run amuck. Dogs' fault? I'd have to go with "no". Owner's responsibility? Absolutely.

Yay for the hawk's missed meal!

if it were my yard, and I had photo evidence like you do, I would not hesitate to pull the "trigger" on my old .22 to put the dog down. Obviously the owner doesn't care what it does, and letting the dog come onto your property and causing damage gives you every right to take appropriate action against the offending animal.

So sorry for your loss.

It's always horrible when the dog is the owner's responsibility and

the owners fail to keep their DOGS safe, therefore putting other people's pets and lifestock in danger.

Now here the poor dogs are, paying for their owners stupidity. I have my own troubles with my own dogs,

but Id atleast be smart enough to keep them home, whether I had to keep em inside or tie them out in

the yard. Please feel better. I know it's hard, I've lost a bunch of my birds to predators but just remember

theres a reason for everything in life

So sorry about your loss...

I have a dog thats part wolf and he has never touched my chickens he even eats bread with them.. But my neighbor had a husky and killed my other neighbors chickens.. and tried to blame my dog until I showed her my dog won't hurt a fly..

I read your post last night, before I actually started writing my own. Very freaky, seeing a similar looking dog on my computer screen, to the one that just wiped out my tiny flock of four! I'm very sad today; I hope you are getting by. Can't offer much comfort, but know that I am commiserating with you in your time of loss.

How sad to loose your hens AND the neighbor having to give up the dogs. So true, though, that the dogs would keep coming back. I hope a new home can be found for them. Did the neighbor say they had broken a chain to get loose?
Our old dog had never been around chickens, plus she has a bad hip, so we never suspected she'd be a threat when we raised 50 chicks. She had been fine being in the yard with them....UNTIL the day we left her out while we went shopping. When we came home, dead young chickens were all over the yard. Not eaten, just killed. Thirty out of 50 were killed! Was it something other than our dog? If so, we never found any evidence that it wasn't her. We put her in the yard next door and she jumped the fence and this time, we found her chasing chickens and others already killed.
So now, she has to spend her days on a long chain in the yard next door, and come inside at night. I'm very sorry for her life to be restricted like this, but no one wants an old dog and she's our responsibility. She can't run the yard & be happy like years past, but I can't have her killing my chickens.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I lost 12 hens in Oct due to some random dog. It is horrible. I have 4 dogs and they do not bother them at all. Thankfully. Once again I am very sorry.
