I'm just one of those people that is leary of inheriting other people's problems when it comes to animals.

I completely agree! Usually, those issues are health related and endanger someone's formerly healthy flock. Always lean to the side of caution when acquiring a started or adult bird.​

You could see if he would let you take the roo on a trial basis. Provided its healthy. If not, you could still take him an quarantine him. And if he just didnt get along or was WAY to rough on the hens, back he could go for soup...

The smartest, best rooster I know is a BR. He is a few years old-I don't know how naughty he was as a youngster. Your girls will tell you if they're miserable with him around. 6 to 1 sounds like a good ratio to me. Roos are so fascinating that I'm heart broken that I can't have one at my house. So, for nothing but my envy, give it a try. He might be a perfect fit.

I love having roosters!
Insofar as quarantining goes, the main purpose of quarantine is to keep an eye on the critter. If you've been keeping an eye on him, a really keen eye for about a month, then quarantine at your place probably won't make a difference. If you've already been walking around in his run and then walking around with your girls, you've probably already exposed them to anything he has. Of course, you can never really tell what's going to happen when you introduce new birds until it's done.

I have a 7 month old BR Roo and I call him Waylon. Periodically I have to remind him who is boss when we are out roaming the horse pasture together. I also have 2 Golden Wyondotte (sp) Willie and Mr. Bojangles. Two of them are headed for the freezer I just have to make up my mind which 2.

the guy said his bil wanted to eat this guy,but he raised him from a egg so he didnt want this to happen! he lives just a few miles away and imsure he will be visiting!!
