IMO , CHICKENS are NOT just a " NOVELTY THAT HAS WORN OFF " . **UPDATE **

you think that's bad then none of you have watched Food Inc. the FDA requires ALL producers like Tyson and Purdue to keep their chickens in dark un ventilated rooms there whole life out of fear or airborne disease. and when they do go to butcher its by a bunch of illegal immigrants that can give a crap less about the birds.

I wish I knew what happened here...

That makes me furious. You should report him to animal welfare. He should be held accountable for his actions. I'm am so disgusted. how can somebody treat an animal like that, he has no business being a pet owner. Those poor chickens, I hope everything works out and he lets you take them. Either way I still think you should file a complaint to animal welfare. People like that make me sick.

I really agree with you in the first part of your statement. That's one of the reasons I have chickens. I don't want to contribute to the way chickens are treated in those places. My chickens are happy so one day I'll get happy eggs. But in the last part I think you were really harsh and you discriminate those people. People that abuse animals are part of every culture and every place. The way the chickens are procesed in most of those facilities are by instructions of those producers....I imagine they want speed and they dont care how that is achived. The way chickens are transported also is producers choice...cramping them like that. The problem is the society that turns a blind eye to the problem and keep supporting the abuse. See no point in speaking about illegal immigrants in that way.

Try to get the coop in the deal too. Add a little ventilation and now you can easily house the new girls too. Good luck!

I might be wrong, but I don't think you'll get anywhere trying to report animal abuse. While I agree it is terrible, and I feel that even animals we eat should be treated kindly (hence the fact that we are trying to raise our own meat or buy it from local, kind farmers), most likely nothing will be done since they are "just chickens" - viewed as livestock, rather than pets. Many people feel that if we can eat it, we can mistreat it. So sad...

This is much what I looked like while reading this.

I about ripped my hair out.
Chickens are not "Novelties" (Just like you were saying). When you get an animal, you are taking the responsibility of taking care of that animal and making it comfy.
The chickens don't have to lay eggs for you, but they do.

You should reward them with a nice home, and not with chucking them across the yard.

Poor chickens. I feel so bad when I see abused animals. One of the highlights of my day is to see my chickens being chickens....they look happy. So I know I'm doing it ok. They own me. They want treats and they ask for them. It's hard to see or hear of chickens being abused like that. There is no reason for that. Those are the kind of people that can hurt someone just because is angry. But no one escapes karma. What you do you pay for.
