Impacted crop... and maybe much more.

Again, thank you very much for your answers. I got the calcium an hour ago and checked several threads to see what dose I should give her. As it weighs 1450 grms (my little thing is anorexic) I have supplied 150 mgs. orally. Right now it is night and she is sleeping. I hope it helps her.

As for if she has more tumors or lash material internally, I can not know, but it is true that I do not notice the belly swollen. The first thing now is that she gets to expel that thing without problems. Then we'll see. I'm not giving her antibiotics because she was 7 days in a row taking them them and the vet I talk to sometimes told me I should stop giving them to her. What I do not know is if now that she have this (the lash egg) she should start a new treatment with other different antibiotics.

Tomorrow I will tell you how my baby evolves.

:fl Hoping she expels it!
Please keep us posted.

I would oil the vent and try to massage it out around the edges. It looks like an egg in your picture, but sounds like lash egg when you describe it. Warm soaks below her wings, and a heating pad on low sitting with a towel between her and the pad are some of the various methods used. We are all hoping you can get it out. Too much calcium with vitamin D probably won’t hurt her today. If she eats eggs well, you can grind an egg shell and all and feed to her for calcium and D.

I too must commend you, not only for your dedication to helping this sweet hen, but for your ACCURACY in describing the situation, the researching you’ve done in your own, the keen observations you’ve made, and the brave steps you’ve taken.

It makes helping from afar much easier. :highfive:

Good morning to everybody.

I'm sorry I did not write these days, but I've been focused on saving the hen and I did not want to distract myself. As I had told you, it seemed that she had salpingitis, and so it was.

The same day that I made the photo where something is seen in her vent I tried to stimulate her with hot baths and putting on a glove greased in olive oil. It did not work

The next day I did the same. A bath every three or four hours, stimulation and resting in a dark and quiet place. Nothing happened. She made an effort to expel that thing but was unable. However, I realized some things that I think were important. Although the bathroom did not displease her, when I dried her with a hair dryer she approached it. He liked that hot air. The last time I did it, before nightfall, instead of stimulating her as always (she lying on her side wrapped in a towel) I decided to do it with her standing up. And I did not give him a bath. I just gave her heat with the dryer and gently put my hand between his legs, I accessed the vent and stimulated it. When standing, gravity helped and that thing went down to the vent, but my poor Marylin did not have much strength. It was best to wait until early morning and try again.

The next day I tried as I said ... and it worked! In less than 3 minutes she expelled the lash egg accompanied by a piece of bloody tissue. I was very happy. The poor hen was very weakened, but she had succeeded. I fed her a little and left her in its box resting. Having blood in his vent (not much, just a trickle) I started again to give her Enrofloxacin to avoid infections. In addition to this I continued to give her Nystatin to remove yeast in its crop (remember the history of the crop ...). Throughout the day it seemed that something was improving and we were hopeful.

The next night, at 4 o'clock in the morning, a flutter woke me up. I went down to see what was going on and found her in a somewhat strange position. Thinking that she had just lost her balance I picked her up to accommodate her again ... and then I saw that she had ejected another lash egg. How many did she have inside her body? Poor girl

That morning I saw her very weak, so we made a paste with her cereal grains and we fed her (big mistake). Now that she had expelled two eggs she had to regain strength. And we prayed that she would not have more lash eggs inside her, because being so weak she would be unable to throw them out. However, that day seemed to weaken more and more and stopped holding on her legs. She is leaning against the side of the box to maintain verticality, but it barely holds. That was two days ago. Yesterday morning I saw her a little better and I thought that the paste had helped her.

But when I checked his crop I saw that the grains were still there. Oh God, again. I gave her water with vitamins and I massaged the crop. And I decided logically not to give her more grain at the moment. At least not whole. I made another cereal puree, but this time perfectly beaten, like a cream (it takes corn, wheat, cooked potato, cooked carrot, cabbage and pepper). We feed her every two or three hours and it seems to work because she defecates more and better. I kept massaging her crop during the day and I was hoping that this morning she already had the empty crop, but it still has cereal grains in there. I think less, but still have some.

Now in the morning we have given her more porridge. She eats scrambled eggs on her own. I also gave him a teaspoon of yogurt and another of apple cider vinegar. My hope is thatshe regains her strength and everything will work again. I stopped giving her the nysatin because I had been giving it to her for six days. Besides I want to recover her intestinal flora. Nor does she take antiobiotics anymore (as they kill intestinal flora too and it's been many days with antibiotics).

I am open to any suggestion. Especially I worry about those cereal grains in the crop. I will continue informing you.

Thank you!

Wow!
This is an incredible account of events!

This lash egg is shocking, and telling too, as it contains what appears to be FIVE yolks inside.
Have all the lash eggs so clearly looked like this inside?

I’m following this story with great interest and wish I had more to offer besides my my most sincere appreciation for sharing your journey with us.

There are other members with experience in the matter who undoubtably will be commenting soon.

Very best wishes to you and your little hen.

Thank you!

By the way, her poop stinks a lot. I don't know if it is important
Thank you so much for the update. Your detailed account and photos are a captivating!

I'm sorry that she still not making a lot of progress after expelling the lash egg(s).
For the crop, it she might have an impact further down somewhere or there may be swelling inside from the Salpingitis. I understand it's a worry since it's not emptying.
You can try giving her 1 stimulant free stool softener (Docusate Sodium) if you have that available. See if that will help break down what's in crop. Massage like you have been doing.

Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts as well.
