Impacted crop?

It sounds like the impaction has now gone yeasty. It can smell so bad, you want to walk away from it. Recently, I was treating a hen for impacted and sour crop. She wouldn't respond to oil or stool softener or yeast treatment. She kept getting worse so I euthanized her. I opened up her body cavity and it was stuffed, literally, with cancer tumors.

I mentioned that because sometimes crop issues "crop" up due to the chicken having serious issues with disease and their body simply stops working. First the digestive system malfunctions, then the liver, then the cardio/pulmonary organs and that usually ends it. We want to recognize a chicken with terminal issues before they have to go through the entire gamut of suffering.

What I recommend is to be very aggressive with the impacted crop treatment. I'm talking about introducing a teaspoon of oil every half hour with massage, and after the third time, include a stool softener. (I recommend tubing it in)

Let it work for an hour and then do a massage. That should break up the solid lump. Then you need to go right after the yeast with miconazole twice a day for seven days. Do not massage a sour crop.

Ok. I will start first thing tomorrow morning. I will also massage it tonight. What should I use for stool softener?

Massage a good ten minutes, very gently, but focus on the hard lump. Use a generic stool softener, comes in gel caps. Pop the entire gel cap into her beak.

You can buy the stool softener at Walmart by the laxatives, but it is not a laxative. Dulcolax is the brand name. Get the generic. It works just as well and is cheaper.

Ok. Thanks. I just got done giving her 3cc of olive oil and massaging her crop for like 10 min. I does seem smaller now and more loose. I worked the hard spot.
I sniffed her mouth and I got whiffs of something that like made me gag.

When you say “pop the gel cap into her beak” do you mean make her swallow the pill or pop out the liquid in her mouth?
