Hey all,

i have a hen that apparently has a trend of eating feathers during molt and getting an impaction.

Last year, our first year with her, she had an impacted and pendulous crop full of feathers that she was eating off the ground while the crew of 5 all molted.

The vet cleared most of it manually and I got a crop bra which ended in disaster- she tried to rip it off and ended up ripping herself open. Emergency surgery repaired her crop and cleaned out the rest of the feathers- apparently there were many more in there.

It looks like it’s happening again. I’d REALLY like to avoid another emergency, and surgery in general.

Any successful methods youve tried for this scenario? Will isolate starting tomorrow and do the coconut / olive oil thing but if these feathers dont pass, would extra grit help break them up?

Thanks!

This stuff works great for impacted crops. I've saved 2 hens and only took 2 days. Nitron Industries is out of business now. I did some searching but couldn't find anymore info on this product. I would hope there is still a natural solution out there for thatch that would work for crops. I just tube fed 2 cc in their crops and overnite could tell a difference. 2nd day drop is empty and pooping like crazy! :D
The bras work well for a crop that isn't emptying but this stuff worked fast!
