Hello,
I am new to the community and new to chickens too. We got out first chicks 2 weeks ago. 3 bantums and a brahma. A few days ago we added 4 more, 2 buffs and 2 barred rocks. I noticed last night that one of the buff chicks(she is probably a week old at most) seems to have a large crop. The material in it isn't hard, but it hasn't gotten smaller throughout the day today, also isn't larger either. She is acting normal(eating, drinking, pooping). They are getting chick starter, some grit, and a few meal worms. Tonight I cleaned the brooder and took everything away besides the starter and water. I haven't separated her yet. Any suggestions? THANKS!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! If your chick is acting normal as you have said eating drinking and pooping I would not be worried. Small chicks especially week olds do have crops that look full when they have been eating crumb all the time. I experienced this my self and I feel it's because they only have chick fluff which makes the crop look more prominent when full of food. Here is a nice article on impacted crop and the signs to look out for https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments I think your chick will be fine just keep a watch for anything different happening.

Wishing you the very best of luck with yiur chicks and hope you enjoy BYC, I am sure you will :frow

I'm glad you joined our community.

My chicks often have full crops when they are young. If the chick is acting normal, I wouldn't worry too much.
