Important News Story About Dog Attacking Raccoon

I sincerely doubt the prosecutor took this case just to make a name for himself. I'm the first one to eliminate 'coons that get into my business so I'm hardly an animal rights advocate. But even I find the unnecessary torture of any creature offensive that is simply for entertainment purposes - which is very much what this looks like.

So I have to ask what you would have did when the dog came out with a raccoon. Cant shoot it without taking the chance of shooting the dog. An Im no sticking my hand down there to break it up...

Absolutely he should not be prosecuted. That one takes the cake. Our laws have gotten so crazy!

This reminds me of a case years ago in Florida. A man kept having his store burglarized. The culprits kept breaking through the roof repeatedly. He couldn't get any help from the police and the insurance company dropped him after paying claims a few times. He electrified the roof. Sure enough the burglar(s) tried it again and his electricuted body was found on the store floor one morning after attempting to come through the roof again. The last I heard the store owner was facing murder or manslaughter charges. I never heard the outcome.

The similarity here is that we no longer have the right to defend our own property.

You won't find a more devoted animal lover or an admirer of all natural creatures than me, but there has to be a line drawn when it's them or us in defending our property.

Poor guy!

PS I can't imagine a jury convicting the guy, but nevertheless, it will no doubt cripple him financially, to hire a lawyer to get himself out of this mess. Too bad you can't countersue for damagesor courtcosts in cases like this, but I think that only applies in civil cases. I don't think you have a recourse if it's the X#@@@* prosecuter after you.

Clearly, this wasn't a simple case of the "dog got a 'coon". This was a case where 3 boys encouraged and filmed a dog relentlessly pursuing and torturing another animal. It is the video the boys took that condemns them. The original post even states dogs will nail 'coons. Nothing we can do about that. But THIS case wasn't just that. This wasn't "natural". It was sport. And that is why all 3 boys were charged.

Oh Boy...! I'm sure glad i don't live next door to that mouse murdering poodle, i'd fear for my life...lol I swear, doesn't the justice system have anything better to do...? Like maybe protecting our borders or something...

Nowhere does it say what you are reading in to the story.

It says they found the garage torn up. The one that owns the dog(an adult) sent the dog in to investigate. the dog came out fighting a coon. Neighboring kid saw it an shot a video on his phone.

Don't see he did anything that the average person with a guard dog wouldn't have done.

I've had dogs that I've instructed to help me with predators but I've also asked them to "drop it" when the job is done. Defending my property and my livestock has NEVER been about entertainment or sport.

- The report says all 3 boys were charged, 2 have admitted guilt and taken deals. (Wasn't a simple matter of some "neighboring kid" filming but rather they were active participants.)
- The remaining accused reported the garage was "torn up" (My assumption: might have been the dog that did it!!!)
- The report did say: "Blumer said the dog was encouraged to attack the raccoon and “tear it apart.” He likened this to cockfighting or dogfighting, both of which are illegal. “There is legitimate sport, and then there’s cruel sport,” he said." (Blumer DID see the video ....)

We all have a right to defend our property. This clearly WAS NOT a case of defending property although that is now being thrown about attempting to defend the charges. Like the prosecutor said, there is legitimate sport and there is cruel sport. Now it's up to a jury to decide.

(Shaking my head here .... )
