Important: USDA census?????UPDATE!

From those people I have spoken to around these parts that have gotten the form it seems what triggered the initial form being sent to them was the purchase of chickens through a commercial hatchery, specifically McMurray. Now weither McMurray had to submit that info or wether it was garnered from the USPO tracking of said packages I don't know. Interesting, huh?

I wonder, is it just McMurry or all? I know when we buy farm supplies at our local farm store we fill out a tax exempt form (farm purposes can claim a tax exempt on some items used for the farm). I wonder then if they all have to report due to the tax exempt statis of farm items? I would imagine that the chicks were considered tax exempt, correct?

Just read up on NAIS and you will see exactly what they want. It's only voluntary now but after this election is over the big push is going to start and they will try to either tax ( by way of the cost to the farmer and fines) you out or ban us all all together. Everyone needs to check in to this and call your legislators and have all your friends and family call theirs and raise sand enough to let them know this will cost them some votes.

Wow - now that IS interesting.... I would NOT be happy with a hatchery sharing MY information with anyone else - even the gov.
I ordered my girls from Ideal - no USDA census paperwork here!

I received one of these census forms the other day too and I just moved in here and did not order any chicks from any hatcheries. After reading through the literature, I have determined that it doesn't apply to me now, but may in the future as I build my operation. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

All commercial hatcheries are required by law to turn in names of people who order from them. Thats why I purchase all my birds from private breeders. Most of the breeders sell less than any commercial hatchery so you can scoot under the wire a bit but once a person is getting a certain ammount of sales and they get noticed they are required by law to file for commercial liscense to opperate a hatchery. Those who only sell eggs can also scoot under the wire for now. It is all about the tax dollars.

*Opinion*

I personally do not believe that the money I spend to buy eggs or grain should be reported to the government BECAUSE it has already been assessed a tax via the irs. MY TAXES ARE PAID. The rest is bull$hit the only dollars they aren't getting aren't there. They're ghost dollars that they are chasing. All the money I spend has had tax assessed on it already. What I do from then on out with my money is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!!!

Arklady

*edited to add* We must be making a dent in the commercial hatchery profits and therefore THEY (the hatcheries), are the LOBBIESTS who are bit¢hing this into law!
