In about 2-3 years, I'll be creating a new Breed of chicken called the Emerald Dragon.(Discussion)

What do you think about a new breed?

Thank you. Total stroke of luck getting the origional four (I still have 3 of Those 4) a few years ago and they expanded the flock themselves until I got 2 more hens this year for new blood
You're welcome.
Phoenix chickens are beautiful, & I've thought about getting some for a while.

While we're on the subject of Phoenix chickens , how many eggs do they lay ? I've heard 12 to 300 hundred so how many ?!?

Well...... I'm not entirely sure. The only times I see any eggs are when they're brooding somewhere I go. But nests usually are between 5-12 and I'm sure they lay when they aren't broodinh, but in random places they hide out in

Update on this: I've decided to take away the black skin, but I would like a polish head poof. I want the hens to have long tails too, not just the roosters... I'm thinking maybe I'll do cochin, polish, and sumatra? Are sumatras fancy? I figure that I'll just keep it one color that breeds true. I'm thinking black...I could call it the Midnight __________
It would also be cool for it to lay blue eggs. Maybe I could use a legbar because they also have crest ish bits?
Edit: hmmm......if I wanted a truly black chicken i could do some ayam cemani in there...*me casually wanting to use all of the fancy chicken breeds for my imaginary breeding projects*

I'm now working on this very strange breed in my head...feathered feet and cochin body shape, black skin, single comb, and quite a long tail. I'll add a drawing to the post once it's done. I can't actually create this breed now, but may try it at some point.
For this project, you might consider having on hand the following (show quality):

---- Black Cochin rooster + hen
---- Sumatra rooster + hen

You might want to cross both ways i.e. Cochin rooster over Sumatra hen and Sumatra rooster over Cochin hen.

Those might be be the initial crosses (F1).

Then evaluate and select the F1's and see what you want to emphasize in the F2's: Cochin body shape/feathered feet; fibromelanistic trait; or long tails? I can see the short tail of the Cochin being a possible problem.

Depending on that, you could breed the F1's to either an Ayam Cemani rooster or a Phoenix rooster, or back to the Cochin hen/rooster depending on the qualities desired. You would want these roosters to be close to the breed standards.

Just a heads up, blue and splash are completely different from topaz. If you make blues, splashes will come rather easily I believe, but you'll have to breed something else in for topaz
Yes I know that.
I wasn't including it as a blue, or splash gene, just a color type I would like to add.

Will this EE cockerel help with your project idea?View attachment 2239367View attachment 2239369Only things he's missing is feathered legs, & single comb.
Thats a gorgeous Roo! However, I was thinking more along the lines of using a Blue Copper Maran Roo over blue/red EE Hens. I had a great rooster for this project once, but made the regretful decision of using him for meat... I was a fool at the time. Here he is.
